If you use sex toys, lube is almost always a good idea — it reduces friction, increases comfort, and extends the life of your toys. But using the wrong type of lube with the wrong type of toy can cause real damage — both to the toy and potentially to your body. Here's what to know.
The quick guide to lube and toy compatibility

Why silicone lube damages silicone toys
This trips up a lot of people. Silicone lubricant and silicone toys don't mix — the lube degrades the surface of the toy, causing it to become tacky and porous. Porous surfaces harbour bacteria that can't be sterilised, which creates a health risk with repeated use.
The only exception is if the toy is made of 100% medical-grade silicone (typically harder and more expensive), in which case some manufacturers say it's safe to do a patch test. But as a general rule: silicone toys + water-based lube in India = the safe, simple answer.
Why water-based lube is the universal option
Water-based personal lubricant works safely with every toy material. It's the only type that does. If you have multiple toys of different materials, water-based lube is the smart single-product solution.
It's also the only type that's safe to use with latex condoms — which matters if you're using condoms on your toys for hygiene purposes (a useful practice even with toys you're not sharing).
How much lube to use
For external vibrators: a small amount on the head of the toy. For insertable toys: coat the toy generously and apply a small amount to the entrance being penetrated. For anal toys: be generous. The rectal lining has no natural lubrication, so more is better here — reapply as needed.
Cleaning up
Water-based lube like slyp washes off toys easily with soap and water. Silicone lube requires more effort and can leave residue on both toys and fabric. This is another practical reason to choose water-based for toy use.
slyp is a pH-balanced, glycerin-free, toy-safe water-based personal lubricant in India. It's designed to work seamlessly with your body and your toys.
